Roberts Individualized Medical Genetics Center (IMGC)

Roberts Individualized Medical Genetics Center (IMGC)

If your child is seen by a specialist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) who suspects that his or her features or symptoms are due to a genetic cause, or to changes in a gene or genes, your child may be referred to the Roberts Individualized Medical Genetics Center (IMGC).

The Roberts IMGC facilitates access to genetic testing across the Hospital and has the expertise to fully explain genetic testing to you and your family.

Our services

The Roberts IMGC is available to coordinate a range of genetic testing, which may include multiple gene panels, microarray-based testing, exome sequencing and genome sequencing. The center helps families understand any genetic testing recommended, and will walk you through the consent and insurance approval process. We carefully capture medical information, gather concise medical, developmental and family histories, and use 3D imaging technology to give us a complete view of your child’s features and symptoms.

After your child’s genetic testing is complete, our team coordinates the interpretation of test results and communication of those results to referring clinicians and families to help plan next steps.

Our team

The Roberts IMGC team is made up of a specialized group of physicians and genetic counselors with extensive experience in genetics. We work with clinicians throughout Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia who wish to refer patients for genetic testing.

Our role is to coordinate with your referring CHOP clinician, work with financial counselors to assess insurance coverage, arrange and facilitate the appropriate testing, counsel you about the process and, if your clinician requests, help explain the test results to you.
